Good Samaritan Baptist Mission

A Baptist Ministry that has been changing lives for 40 Years

Opportunity of a LIfetime Program

One day in August 1987, Bob and Joan Tyson were visiting the Feed the Hungry kitchens they had built in Honduras. School was in session, but none of these children they saw around the huts were able to go to school. School means buying books, a school uniform, shoes and sometimes bus fare. They knew that without an education, these children would grow up like their parents, illiterate and poor.

Someday, if sickness did not cause their death, they would have only a hut to live in. Communist would make a bid for them because the communist use poverty to convert people to communism, promising them an easier and richer life. That day Opportunity of a Lifetime was born in their hearts and minds.

A few months later it became a reality. For thirty dollars a month, a child could eat and receive everything he needed to get an education. Never in their wildest imagination would they have ever dreamed that God was going to do what He did and is continuing to do throughout Honduras and Nicaragua in the Children's Programs. Many of the men that Pastor the Good Samaritan Churches were once children of the Opportunity of a Lifetime Program. How could they have ever dreamed that out of Opportunity of a Lifetime, there would be Christian Schools with thousands of students with hundreds in our Boarding School. They never planned for all of this to happen but God did.

With thousands of children in the program and hundreds of Christian workers serving God faithfully everyday, Opportunity of A Lifetime has become a driving force which has the tools to truly change the lives of children in Honduras and Nicaragua. The Great Missionary Hudson Taylor once said, "GOD'S WORK DONE GOD'S WAY WILL NOT LACK GOD'S SUPPLY"

How the Program Works

Opportunity of a Lifetime searches for children who are in need of food and an education. Once these children are found, they are placed in our Feed the Hungry program where they can eat a good meal every day. A picture is taken of the child and a case history is written for each child with all their family and living information. After this, we look for sponsors in the United States who are willing to help the child. Once a child is sponsored, he or she is given a school uniform, shoes, and school supplies. The child is enrolled in one of our five Christian Schools in Honduras or Nicaragua. If the child lives to far, he is enrolled in good local school. There, the child will receive an Education and his life will be changed.

Many of our children that have graduated from our schools now work as lawyers, doctors, secretaries, and some children have even grown up to be Pastors with our mission. Apart from the regular High School courses, we offer Bachelors in Computers, Bilingual Secretary, and sewing classes to the students. This way, they have a skill when they leave our school and many find work immediately. After 20 years, our school in Honduras is now considered one of the best schools in the country. It is truly an honor to graduate from the Good Samaritan Christian School.
