Planting and Building Churches
God spoke to Bro. Bob Tyson the night he heard Missionary Frank Rosser tell about towns and villages in Northern Nicaragua that had never heard the Gospel nor had a Gospel-preaching church. That night in 1964, the Holy Spirit touched Bro. Bob's heart and he surrendered to go. It took him 3 1/2 years to study the Bible at Tennessee Temple University and another year of studying Spanish in Costa Rica, but he never forgot or wavered from his calling. Bro. Bob could not speak Spanish very well at that time. When he would talk about going to Northern Nicaragua with the vision of starting 12 churches, other missionaries would ask him, "Who is going to preach for you in Nicaragua?," but this did not discourage Bro. Bob. He always said God will provide and God did provide. He went into Esteli, Nicaragua in late 1969 and from there he began to go to those villages –no Churches, no Bibles, but he found people hungry for the Word of God. As people began to get saved, he chose young men and began to teach them. The tent meetings in the villages would last for 30 days and in most every place, there would be enough people to start a church. He would leave a young man to pastor these people with Bob's help. |
When the war came in 1978, he and his family had to leave Nicaragua for the neighboring country of Honduras, thinking that it would only be for a little while but it ended up being something like 10 years. He had left 12 churches in Nicaragua and every one of these churches had mission churches so there were Gospel preaching churches and missions in many places in Nicaragua. Many pastors had to leave Nicaragua because of the war, but this resulted in them expanding into the countries of Costa Rica and Mexico.
Today, there are over 200 national pastors and each pastor has a church and mission churches. We have lost count of the many churches that God has raised up through a man that had so much problems in the beginning with the Spanish language. Good Samaritan Baptist Mission is graduating more pastors every year and more churches are being raised up. Bob Tyson was a man of faith and determination. He knew God had called him and no man could stop him when he felt that God was leading him from village to village. He is now with the Lord but his teachings and his testimony will never be forgotten by the people here in Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Mexico, and even a church in Puerto Rico that is pastored by another missionary.

"Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you." (John 15:16)
