Bob and Joan Tyson, founders of Good Samaritan Baptist Missions, are heroes of the faith to many of us. I did not get to meet Bro. Bob until after his health had begun to decline. We were on a mission trip in 2005, and it was Bro. Bob’s birthday. The staff had a birthday party for him one afternoon at the mission center. As the party was winding down, Bro. Bob came over to where I was sitting and sat down beside me. He began to tell me the story of how the radio ministry was started in the corner room just behind where we were sitting. It was the first FM station in San Marcos de Colon and went on the air on September 28, 1991. At that time, most people in that area did not have FM radios. Through the years, the Lord grew the radio ministry to four FM stations and four AM stations.

As with everything, there have been many changes in radio broadcasting since that first day on the air in 1991, especially in the last few years. Similar to radio in the states, AM radio is not being listened to as much as when first started. The size of the listening audience is not the only issue. The electricity cost for AM transmitters is significantly higher than the FM transmitters. In the past, this was not a problem, but now our electrical bill is nearly three times what it was a few short years ago. Our older equipment also means that it takes more electricity to run them, and repairs are very costly.

We believe that concentrating on our FM stations and adding new online platforms can be a part of our future growth. God has also blessed us with talented pastors, musicians and many gifted people who have graduated from our schools over the years. We are certain that some of these individuals can be a big part of helping us as we desire to continue proclaiming the love of Christ over the airwaves for years to come.

As we enter into this new season for Samaritan Radio Network, we ask for your prayers and support. The people of Central America do not have the means to support the radio. We see the radio as the spiritual “Feed the Hungry” Program - giving the Bread of Life to those who are starving spiritually and who are not able to hear the Message unless someone with compassion makes the sacrifice to give what they cannot.

We are praying for more than 200 new partners to help with the monthly budget and equipment needs. Please consider supporting us at any level the Lord puts on your heart.
Monthly Ministry Needs:

120 - $25 monthly partners
20 - $50 monthly partners
10 - $100 monthly partners
6 - $ 500 monthly partners
4 - $1,000 monthly partners
