21 Students Baptized in Honduras

Today was an amazing day! If you remember, last year we had student baptisms and today we were blessed to have 21 students to be baptized! Pastor Seth Bunch from Cloverleaf Missionary Baptist Church, in Cartersville, Ga. was here to baptized these students. It was a sweet time to see students who have gotten saved, discipled, and now baptized! Afterwards we had the Lord's Supper and we could feel the Holy Spirit there. God continues to amaze us in Honduras every single day!

How important is Baptism in the Latin Culture?

If you are a member of a Church, you have probably seen someone baptized in the United States. First, someone makes a profession of faith and then after receiving instructions, they are baptized. In Central America, it is a little different. 

Baptism is a huge step for the Latin people. I will tell you a story about a baptism that caused three brothers to be kicked out of their home. 

There were three brothers, Favio, Vidal and Ramon who were saved in Nicaragua years ago. All three had already been baptized as a baby in the Catholic Church. Baptizing babies is a big part of the Catholic ritual. There are several steps that a family goes through with their children like baptism, first communion and so much more. If they do not go through these steps, once they are ready to be married, they will not be able to be married by the Church which is very important to them. So for Favio, Vidal and Ramon, being baptized into the Baptist Church was like turning their back on everything they had been taught since childhood.

When their father found out what their plans were, he told them that if they went through with the baptism, he would disown them and they would not have a home to come back to. The brothers were baptized in the river by my father that next Sunday afternoon and their father kept his word and they were kicked out of their home. This is not a sad story. Years later, not only did their father receive Christ but Vidal is now a Missionary and is the Director of our ministry in Mexico. Favio has started several Churches in Costa Rica and now he is the Director of our ministry in Nicaragua.   

This past week, 21 students from our school made the same decision. They turned their back on religion, their families and friends to serve Christ without shame. Who knows what some of these young souls will go through but their faith is strong in the Lord. Every baptism in Honduras and Nicaragua is a very special day. Not only does it take a commitment to be baptized but also courage. Please keep these 21 young people in your prayers as they continue serving the Lord in their daily lives.​
